Flames & Desires: Erasmus: Leeds Light Night und das Bonfire mit Feuerwerken im Hyde Park

Schon viel zu lange sind diese beiden Nachtspektakel her, die ich euch nun zeigen will. Bloß lässt die momentane Prüfungsphase hier einfach kein regelmäßiges Bloggen zu. Dadurch verzögern sich natürlich all meine Erasmus-Beiträge. Ich hoffe aber trotzdem, dass ihr mir das nicht übel nehmt und mit Verständnis und Spaß die Posts lest, hm?

Anfang Oktober fand in Leeds also die Light Night statt, an der verschiedene Künstler, Hochschulen und Organisationen teilnahmen, um die beliebtesten Plätze der Stadt mit Hilfe von Lichtinstallationen für einen Abend zu Hinguckern zu machen. Bunt bestrahlte Gebäude, Skulpturen, die mit Licht Geschichten erzählten, Freiluftkino-Ausstrahlungen oder besondere Projekte, die viel Publikum anlockten. All das sowie die daraus entstandene ungewöhnliche Stimmung machten das Event zu einem schönen Abend, das einzig durch wiederkehrenden Regen getrübt wurde. Macht nichts, denn an das Wetter hier haben wir uns gewöhnt und hatten trotzdem Spaß.

Am 5. November fand dann ein wohl noch schöneres Event statt, auf welches hier in Großbritannien schon Wochen zuvor hingefiebert wird. Mit einem riesigen Freudenfeuer und Feuerwerken in der ganzen Stadt verbrachte ich meine erste Bonfire Night im Hyde Park Leeds. Bereits auf das Jahr 1605 geht diese Tradition zurück und feiert damit das Vereiteln des Attentats von Guy Fawkes auf das Londoner Parlament, welches auch im Film 'V wie Vendetta' thematisiert wurde und einigen von euch vielleicht daher ein Begriff ist. Kalt und schlammig war der Park, doch schon allein wegen dem wunderschönen Feuerwerk und der Volksstimmung hatte sich der Abend gelohnt. Aber seht selbst, die Impressionen der beiden Events gibt es direkt nach dem bekannten Reim für euch.

Today I'm going to show you two events which are way too long ago for a blog. But due to current exam period it is just not possible for me to blog regularly. And that's why my erasmus posts drag behind too, of course. I still hope that you read them with understanding and excitement, hm?

So in the beginning of October the Light Night took place in Leeds and transformed the city and its most popular places into true eye-catcher sites. Colourfully illuminated buildings, light installations and sculptures as well as special projects made by artists, universities and other organisations told stories with the lights and created a particular atmosphere, which we really enjoyed even despite the recurring rain.

On November 5 I attended an even nicer event at Hyde Park Leeds that whole Great Britain was awaiting weeks in advance. The Bonfire Night, which has been a tradition since 1605 already, celebrated the prevention of an assassination attempt on Houses of Parliament by Guy Fawkes with a huge bonfire and beautiful fireworks around the city. Some of you may know the Gunpowder Plot story from the film 'V for Vendetta'. The park was really cold and muddy that evening but the provided light spectacle was absolutely worth it. And here is the well known rhyme on it.
